A few months ago Albany Mommy and a few readers {with their children} got to take a Nutrition Tour at Hannaford in Latham with Monique, their registered dietician.
We learned so much! I can't believe it. Monique taught us about organic vs non-organic. If you are going to spend the money for organic without going fully organic, what should you spend money on? Monique said anything where the skin goes in pretty much. Like apple juice, I never thought to buy organic, but the skins are pressed along with everything else and not scrubbed of pesticides first. Eeewwww!
Did you know that when high fructose corn syrup is produced that mercury is a by-product? I almost fell over when Monique went into detail about that.
We also learned some great snack ideas for kids at home and to take to school. Freeze little yogurts, they'll be ready to eat by snack time, frozen grapes, and the best tip - put in a variety and let kids "make their own snack. For instance, veggies and dip, apples and peanut butter, yogurt and topping. Anything where kids put together ingredients with make food more fun. We've been trying it at our house and snacks have gotten so much healthier.
Hannaford offers nutrition tours and classes at each Hannaford. I highly suggest taking the time for a tour. Get another Mom or 2 and go together. Monique will tailor the tour towards you. I told her we wanted to know a lot about organic eating and kids eating and she really did a great job concentrating on those items.

This is:
1. More addictive than Starbucks
2. The warm up is as hard as the WOD
3. The best legal high you'll ever get
4. Harder to explain than TiVo when it first came out
Got anything to add to the list?

I am not a huge fan of home parties, except Pampered Chef and Stella & Dot. And, I constantly get invited to them. I even tried to do Dove Chocolate home parties for a while and failed miserably.
Bridget sent me a flyer about a totally DIFFERENT type of home party. Instead of spending money, you go home with more than you came with! Got your attention? Here's the details:
Party of Gold!
How it works…Think of it as a "reverse party"...You come to make money...not spend it! Bring your own gold, broken, out of style, "old boyfriend", "ex-husband", single earring, etc. Party of Gold will be there to test, weigh, and hand you a check right in front of you!
Can't make the party? Drop off the jewelry prior, and we will call you from the party.
Party of Gold is woman-owned, and BBB accredited.
· Receive 10% of the gold purchased / 15% for charities
· $50 referral for each guest that books a party

Did you know that FDA regulations for sunscreens haven't been updated since 1978? Unbelievable! Do you know how much sunscreens have change in that time?
I have been using sunscreen on my kids every day this summer. Some sunscreens working way better than others. Sandra from PolkaDots was kind enough to bring info about sunscreens to me and I am so glad she did! I want to do everything I can to protect my kid's skin.
PBS has a great article on the difference between an SPF of 50 and one of 100, the difference between UVA and UVB, and a sunscreen buying guide.
I replaced all the sunscreens I use on my kids after reading this!

I don't always get rarely get enough time to respond to all the emails I get. It's a wonderful feeling to have grown so much in popularity but I hate that I don't have enough time to respond to everyone.
Two readers who have been along for the ride since the beginning are always sending in incredible, awesome tips and I want to say THANKS for all of them!!
What's funny is that both of them are KS. Same last name and different first name. Guys, I don't say it often enough, but thanks so much for all the tips you send in. I greatly appreciate it.
To the KS who works in my favorite store - I look at the name tags every time I'm there and I'll find you eventually!
THANKS!!

Albany Mommy recently celebrated it's 2nd blog-a-birthday! I am so excited that we are entering a 3rd year!
Lots of excitement coming this year - more giveaways, more info, more events...
And, the best part? A few days before we hit 2 years old we got paperwork that the trademark I applied for was finally approved after months and months of waiting! Albany Mommy is now trademarked!! Yippee!
Coccadotts was nice enough to provide us with a cake for the celebration. Thanks Rachel!! Way better than the dinner we had last year to celebrate. The most delicious way to celebrate. Yummmmm.
Actually so yummy some of the Albany Mommy little interns couldn't wait for a taste. Can't say I blame them for this one though. I think they were just so excited about the trademark news! Notice they knew enough not to stick their little fingers in the trademark symbol!!
Here's to a happy, healthy, exciting and fun 3rd year!

Park Playhouse has announced the plays for their 2010 season.
Annie Get Your Gun will be showing from July 6th to August 15th. The Wiz will show from July 29th until August 15th.
Never been to the Park Playhouse? It's held every year in Washington Park. Admission is free, however you can sit in reserve seating for a fee. {They do pass a collection basket mid show and you'll be happy you'll just throw money into it!} It's a ton of fun and a great way to support the local arts.
I cannot wait to go see The Wiz.
